The Moth
— a not-for-profit storytelling organization founded in 1997. It features regular live storytelling events that welcome open participation in New York City and elsewhere, as well as a radio hour broadcast over many public radio stations.
The Poetry Foundation
— An independent literary organization whose web site serves as a substantial resource on poets and poetry old and new. The Foundation publishes Poetry magazine, founded in 1912, the oldest periodical devoted to verse in the English-speaking world. Poetry has presented works by virtually every significant poet of the 20th century.
This American Life
— a weekly public radio show, broadcast on more than 500 stations, that features a theme and a variety of stories on that theme. It’s "mostly true stories of everyday people, though not always...There are funny moments and emotional moments and—hopefully—moments where the people in the story say interesting, surprising things about it all." Episodes are archived, streamible over the Internet, and downloadable as podcasts.
StoryCorps
— one of the largest oral history projects of its kind, providing Americans of all backgrounds and beliefs with the opportunity to record, share, and preserve the stories of their lives. The heart of StoryCorps is the conversation between two people who are important to each other: a son asking his mother about her childhood, an immigrant telling his friend about coming to America, or a couple reminiscing on their 50th wedding anniversary. One can listen to many of the stories on the web site.
